Two weeks back, I wrote and shared about the recent unrest in Nigeria, as experienced or rather witnessed Through My Eyes, and I find it interesting that less than three weeks after the tragic Lekki toll gate massacre, life as we know it has continued. The malleability of the human spirit amazes me.

Reflecting on all that went on last month in Nigeria and some other nations, I learnt a few things, and being the nice and generous person that I am, I would be sharing these lessons with you for free!! oh, you are welcome.

Lesson 1: God, the creator of the maker of man knew what he was saying when he out this statement;

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is”.

Jeremiah 17:9 NLT

Unfortunately, we tend to forget this, and when evil is perpetuated by men it surprises us. I was also in shock at the form of human cruelty I witnessed until I recalled that verse. Everyman carries a heart that if left to its own devices has the capacity for dastardly wicked acts and my heart and yours are not exempted.

Wickedness is not acquired in a day, it is learned over time. It starts with small subtle actions, you hurt someone deliberately or you gain from another man’s pain, the first time you feel terrible, but soon it no longer looks as bad, gradually you lose all sense of compassion till there is nothing left, no conscience only a heart that is as callous as rock, selfish and unyielding.

Man left to himself, no matter his level of education, exposure, abundance of wealth, or his pedigree has this same capacity. That’s why we all need Jesus.

what Jesus does.

Lesson 2 : Prayer never gets old. I saw a few nods, some rolling of eyes and heard a few hisses. Calm down, your reaction doesn’t change the truth. One reason why many doubt this truth is because they don’t how and why we pray, so let me tell you why we pray (if you are interested in the how, let me know in the comment section);

  • We pray because something’s are beyond our control, and one of such things is the heart of man, but nothing is out of God’s control, so it is a no brainer to simply ask the more powerful one for help, isn’t it?

I am the LORD, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?

Jeremiah 32:27 (NLT)
  • We pray to get wisdom and strategy. the problems we face today predate the birth of many of us, it goes beyond fixing government, because even the common man is corrupt. Men in their wisdom have tried to fix things in the past and failed, if we would succeed we need strategies that work. Strategies born out of God’s heart.

Common sense and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine. Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments

Proverbs 8:15-17

Make no mistake, God is not just the God of the church, He is the God of the EARTH, so don’t think he is uninterested in social reformation. His desire is that His Kingdom come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Mathew 6:10), so the sooner we partner with him, the better for all of us.

In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. All nations will stream to it,

Isaiah 2:2

There are other reasons why we pray, and some other lessons I learnt, but this is where I drop my pen stop typing for now. See you soon…
