Ministry Isn’t Church….

June 15, 2018. 09:07 am. The date and time I put down this title with the intention of sharing a few thoughts with you (my darling reader😊) and today I finally get to put those thoughts into words (written/typed) I’m excited and a little bemused😅.

So right now I’m dipping into the tornado that I call my mind and trying to find the train of thought that started this matter in the first place… *scratches head* (in my mind😊), I think I’d just start somwhere, you know how it is, we’d get to the final destination either way.

I was in a bus when this thought process started, I was either listening to a message (preaching) or pondering over one I had listened to when it struck me… Ministry isn’t church…Eureka! So let me explain myself.
NOTE- Church used through out this post refers to our Local assemblies.

When you hear a Christian say I’m going into ministry, what crosses your mind? He is going to become a Pastor, right? Ministry usually means doing something in church so we have music ministers, drama ministers, ministers of the word e.t.c. but I just realized how myopic we’ve been, ministry is so much more than ministering in church.

In Christianityministry is an activity carried out by Christians to express or spread their faith . Wikipedia

A number of us don’t feel like we are doing anything for Christ till we are actively serving in church, we are so passionate about God, we want to serve him with all our hearts which to us equals ‘church work‘ so we do our secular Jobs haphazardly or a little less passionately  just so we can spend more time on church which is our ‘ministry‘ but has it ever crossed your mind that your secular Job is your ministry too?

1st Corinthians 10:31

Having everyone trying to serve only in church is like having too much salt in a pot of soup, yea, you know that taste, the thought alone is distasteful. While the Holysprit does give ministry gifts for the building up of the body of Christ (1st corinthians 12) we aren’t all called to be pastors or preachers but we are all called to reconcile men to christ.

However, you don’t have to be a pastor or an evangelist to do this, wherever you work, school or live is the field where you need to shine, you have the oppurtunity to love, be kind, give comfort and help those around you. Work diligently, be honest, be faithful, accountable and trust worthy, that’s what it means to let your light shine, that is ministry!. You minister through your life EVERYDAY, question is what message does your life preach?

God has called christians into all spheres (politics, business, entertainment, academics, etc.) to shine the light of Christ, showing men that our God is no mediocre, He gives men business acumen same as he gives evangelists wisdom to speak the word, He gives men insight to lead cooperations just as he gives pastors grace to build churches.

We won’t all stand behind the pulpit, so don’t run to church before you call it ministry, serve wherever you are. The ‘light’ in church is too much already, we are blinding each other and busy arguing over issues that don’t count.

Go where your light is really needed .

We need to get out there and minister. Preach with your trade, preach with your life.
Just as God is anointing men to be pastors, He’s anointing others to make so much wealth that they can lend to nations, He’s anointing men to sing songs that trasform hearts, He’s anointing men to find the cure to deadly ilnesses… the list goes on. Even in scriptures, God didn’t only anoint prophets, He anointed Judges, Kings, warriors, and even artisans!

See, I have appointed by name Bezalel son of Uri………….And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in all kinds of craftsmanship…. to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze
Exodus 31:2-4

I’m in ministry, I am a minister of God, but I’m not going to wait for a pulpit. What about you?
