Good vs God.

Hello you *Big smiles*, i keep getting the feeling that I’ve written this post before, but searching through, i find that i haven’t so like i promised some weeks back, I’d be writing on this “Good vs God” today. ENJOY.😊

It may seem a little strange to have to compare Good and God, a comparism between good and evil seems more like the norm, but good and God? Aren’t they virtually same?

Everything from God is good, but not everything good is of God. Take a minute to let that sink in.

Everything from God is good, but not everything good is of God.

Before it begins to seem like I’m making up my own theology, i think its best we go straight to scripture. The bible.

Lets begin at the Old testament. Remember Uzzah in 2nd Samuel 6? In case you don’t,  let me give you the gist.

The ark of God had been captured by enemies of Isreal for sometime and on this faithful day, it was being returned. Now the Children of Israel were super excited that the presence of God was coming back to dwell with them, however, as they journeyed home, dancing and rejoicing, the oxen bearing the ark stumbled and Uzzah who was one of the men guiding the oxen did the GOOD thing that any good man would have done and tried support the ark, you know what happened ? He was struck dead by God!

Poor Uzzah, he didn’t know what was coming

Imagine, the man did something good and God repaid him by killing him. HOW UNFAIR.

So let’s waltz into the new testament for a bit and see what obtained there. Remember Martha (Luke 10:38-42) , just in case you don’t, I’d gladly give you the gist.

Mary and Martha were sisters, they lived with their brother Lazarus. One beautiful day, Jesus paid them a visit and while Martha was busy about the house, trying to make things perfect for her guest, Mary was lounging at the feet of Jesus hanging onto his every word. You can Imagine Martha’s displeasure, she was so upset that she went and confronted Jesus about it, you know what he said?

Luke 10:38-41
My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!
There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha was obviously upset, see her eyes!

Can you imagine, Martha had been busy slaving away, working hard, she was doing something GOOD but yet Jesus supported Mary over her. HOW ANNOYING.

one more example. Jesus went to the temple in Mathew 12:46-50, He was speaking to a crowd, teaching them as he often loved to do, while at it, His mother and brothers waited outside to speak with him, a good man came and told Jesus that he had guests, do you know how Jesus replied?

Mathew 12:48-50
Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers.  Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!”

Can you see his family standing outside?

Can you imagine that? Wouldn’t it have been polite (GOOD) if Jesus had excused himself and gone to answer his mother first, after all, she carried him for nine months and all, but just look the way he replied. HOW RUDE.

Dear reader, lets look more closely. From the example of Uzzah, let it be know, that specific instructions had been given on how God desired the ark to be handled (Number 4:15, 19-20;  Joshua 3:4), these specifics were outrightly disobeyed, Uzzah tried to do something “good” but wouldn’t it have been better to do it as God himself had instructed? Lesson 1-Do God’s things God’s way.

In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus wasn’t trying to encourage laziness but to remind us that there’s order in life and somethings just have to come first. He wanted Martha to understand that as much as caring for him was good, God wanted her to learn of him first.

Matthew 6:33
Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (LESSON 2)

In the last scenerio with Jesus, we see Jesus again showing us that the most important thing is doing God’s will.

So what’s the point?

As a believer, there’d be many things that seem good, but not all these things are of God, there’d be many worthy causes to get involved in but it’s not all the time that that’s what God would have you do, don’t be so preoccupied with what is good in your own eyes, or in the eyes of majority that you forget that what God wants may (not all the time) be totally different and don’t ever think that you can please God by doing good things while you ignore his specific instructions. Bottom line,  let God lead you by his spirit to what His heart desire is on every matter.

It’s good to do good, but its best to do God.😉

to be continued…..

  1. AWESOME PIECE….a lot of us really need to realise this. The earlier we do, the better and the less time and energy we spend on the irrelevant😊
