Did God lie?

And the story goes this way (but I paraphrase😊)…

God created the first man ‘Adam’ and he said to him, Adam, the man made in my image, see how I love you so much, I have placed around you appetizing delicacies in form of fruits, you can feast on any as you like, but Adam there’s this tree at the center of the Garden, I’m sure you must have noticed it, it’s position is strategic and it’s for a reason, Adam Adam ADAM! HOW MANY TIMES DID I CALL YOUR NAME? Do not eat from that tree for the day that you do, that day, you would surely DIE!

Moving on, God made a beautiful woman for Adam, she was to be his helpmeet, the closest to his side, and he loved her from the microsecond he set his eyes on her. Such beauty, the two lovebirds had everything they needed, taking sunbaths around the garden, bathing in the purest streams, it was bliss. But one day while Eve was taking a leisurely walk around the garden, the crafty serpent came around, I bet he had such a seductive voice and knew all the right words, because Eve was instantly charmed. He opened her eyes to the beauty of the fruit of the tree that God had said they must not eat off and when Eve said emphatically that God said they would die were they to eat of the fruit, the serpent laughed at her and said “oh, you innocent beautiful princess, don’t you know that GOD LIED?, i can assure you that you won’t die, you’d only become wiser, in fact you’d be like God, now don’t you want that” Eve thought for a second, indeed the fruit looked delicious and she had never had a taste of anything like it before, she didn’t think to wait to ask God if the serpent was right, she didn’t pause to ask Adam, could God really have lied to them? She ate the fruit and her husband with her. When she took the first bite i imagine the serpent said “you see my lady, i told you, you wont die, aren’t you still breathing, God obviously lied” and so Adam ate too and their eye’s were opened, THEY DID NOT DIE.

Or so they thought. What Eve failed to understand is that God doesn’t speak in our terms. Death to God is to be separated from him, and Adam and Eve did Die, just not the way they ecpected. so did God lie?

In the old testament, many prophecies were made about Jesus the messiah who would come and deliver his people, Israel. The people waited for a powerful king, a warrior who would lead them in triumphant battle against their enemies, but what they got was an unschooled son of a carpenter who never even wielded a sword, never learnt martial arts, couldn’t even fight to save his own life, he looked nothing like a king much less a messiah, He couldn’t be Israel’s saviour, God must have lied through the prophets. What they failed to understand was God can’t be understood by Logic, the saviour wasn’t a political saviour but a spiritual one, he came to save them from an eternal doom, from a far greater captivity than what they could see. So were they just shortsighted? Or did God lie?

God says;

 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge….. Hosea 4:6a

His thoughts are so far above ours. Too many times we think God has failed us, we think he must have lied to us because things didn’t exactly play out the way we thought they would. But did God lie or are we just lacking understanding

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Proverbs 4:7

But God doesn’t lie. So when he speaks, make sure you understand what he means. Because there may just be more to it than meets the physical eye.

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19

He loves you too much to lie to you.😉
